CER is working to restore the Jabez Branch, one of Maryland’s rarest and ecologically important streams. The Jabez watershed supported the last remaining wild brook trout population in the Coastal Plain of Maryland. Urbanization of the watershed, located at the headwaters of the Severn River, over a 30 year period led to the extirpation of the brook trout by 2020. A renewed focus is underway thanks to the Whole Watershed Act to restore the Severn River and its headwater streams in the Jabez Branch. Watch our StoryMap, Bringing Back Jabez Branch, and join the cause to restore the brook trout.
